Brent crude oil prices have recently reached 120 $/bbl, the highest value since 2012 amid a global scenario of very high prices for energy products and other commodities.
World oil markets have rapidly rebalanced after the Covid-19 crisis, with demand growing by 5.6 mmb/d year-on-year to 97.4 mmb/d in 2022. Despite this robust growth, world oil consumption is likely to remain below the pre-pandemic level this year (99.4 vs 100.6 mmb/d observed in 2019).
In fact, the economic picture is still dominated by several risk factors: new lockdowns due to the surge of Covid-19 cases worldwide, high inflation rates and consequent aggressive monetary tightening by central banks (Federal Reserve first and foremost), the war in Ukraine and growing geopolitical risks.
This Energy talk will shed light on the future development of oil prices and market fundamentals, examining the current and future role of OPEC+. Further, we will explore the impact of the path to a low-carbon future, designed by governments and other local institutions, for consumers, businesses, and oil-producing countries.
