After every large corporate scandal, executives and employees of competing firms start to wonder whether the same could have happened within their organization. Why was one company affected so heavily (in fraud, corruption, harassment, mis-leading customers etc.), while a direct competitor – possibly not only in the same industry, but also located in the same country, with overlapping customers and suppliers, and who recruited employees with similar backgrounds – might constantly have acted with integrity? When and why do normal people in normal organizations start to show unethical behavior? And what can leaders and HR do to prevent unethical behavior? By looking at an example case and related research, we will explore these questions in an interactive session.
